About Tailwinds
Tailwinds is a free, browser-based airline management and strategy game. You take a small startup carrier and grow it into a global airline by making the decisions a real airline makes — what to fly, where to fly it, and how to pay for it all.
What the game simulates
Tailwinds models the core economics of running an airline. You lease and purchase aircraft, open routes between real-world airports, set fares, build connecting hubs, and compete against computer-controlled rivals for passengers and market share. Underneath the interface is a simulation of demand, capacity, pricing, and operating cost: fill your seats and price your fares well and you profit; misjudge a market and you lose money. The challenge is the same one real airline planners face — balancing ambition against the unforgiving math of cost per seat.
Real airports, real aircraft
The map is built on more than 1,500 real airports across 200+ countries, and the fleet draws on over 100 real aircraft types — from regional turboprops to long-haul widebodies, each with its own capacity, range, and cost characteristics. That grounding in real geography and real equipment is what makes the strategy meaningful: the trade-offs you weigh in the game mirror the ones airlines weigh in the world.
Free, instant, and browser-based
There's no download, no installer, and no account required. Tailwinds runs entirely in your web browser on desktop or mobile, and your progress saves automatically on the device you play on. Open the page and you're playing within seconds. It's designed to be easy to pick up for a few minutes and deep enough to reward hours of planning.
How it was made
Tailwinds is an independent project. The core game design — the economic model, the balance of systems, the feel of the simulation — was designed by humans. AI tools and large language models were used during development to help with coding and to scale those designs into the breadth of airports, aircraft, and content the game ships with. We mention this openly because we think players deserve to know how the things they use are built.
Community & contact
Tailwinds has an active community on Discord where players share strategies, report bugs, and help shape where the game goes next. If you've found an issue, have a feature idea, or just want to talk airline strategy, that's the best place to reach us — join the Tailwinds Discord. For other enquiries you can also reach the team through the Discord server's contact channels.
