This Privacy Policy explains how Tailwinds ("we", "us", or "the game") handles information when you visit and play the game at this website. Tailwinds is a free, browser-based airline management game. We aim to collect as little personal information as possible, and this page describes what is stored, why, and the choices you have.

Information we store

You do not need an account to play Tailwinds, and the game never asks for your name, email address or any other personal contact information in order to play.

The game uses your browser's local storage to save your game progress (for example, your airline, fleet, routes, and finances) directly on your own device. This save data stays in your browser, is not transmitted to us, and lets you pick up where you left off. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this website.

Cloud saves (optional, for supporters)

Cloud saves are an optional extra for people who support the game. To use them you sign in with a Headwinds account (Headwinds is this game's multiplayer companion, run by the same person). Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Supabase, using Google, Discord or a link sent to your email address. We receive your email address and an account identifier from it, and the first time you sign in, a Headwinds account is created for that email if you do not already have one. Signing in keeps a session token in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in; signing out removes it.

When you upload a game to a cloud slot, we store a copy of that save (your airline, fleet, routes and finances), a summary used to show the slot (airline name and logo, home airport, game date and cash), when it was uploaded, and a short description of the device it came from, such as "Chrome on Mac". It is stored in our database, which is hosted by Supabase, and is used only to give the save back to you. It is never shared or sold.

You can delete any cloud save at any time from the Save / Load window. Your cloud saves are also deleted if your Headwinds account is deleted, which you can ask for on Discord. The database is backed up daily, so a deleted save can remain in a backup for up to about a week before it ages out.

Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small file placed on your device. We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage and device identifiers) to operate the game, remember preferences, and — where advertising is shown — to serve and measure ads. Some cookies are essential to the game functioning; others are set by third-party services described below.

We may use third-party advertising companies, including Google, to serve ads when you visit the site. These companies may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate, anonymous usage — such as how many people play and which pages they visit — so we can improve the game. This data is not used to personally identify you.

Children's privacy

Tailwinds is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.

Your choices

• You can clear your saved game and any stored data by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
• If you use cloud saves, you can delete them and sign out from the Save / Load window at any time.
• You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings; note that disabling some cookies may affect how the game works.
• You can opt out of personalized advertising using the links in the advertising section above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
